This happened.

So that means he's been gone for three years, which feels REALLY STRANGE, considering it doesn't feel like all that long ago and yet he's now been gone for as long as I had him. I picked him up on October 2nd 2003.

It doesn't look too good for Kajsa either...

Every now and then I think back to the meetup in Tennessee and the horseback riding we did. Actually, it's the only kind of horseback riding I've ever done. I don't know what it's like to be on a "real" horse, riding out in the pasture, directing him to go whichever way I want him to go and enjoying the ride as he gallops along. Cripes, I can't even imagine being able to control him properly.

I remember you were a somewhat disappointed with the "ride" we had with those horses; they've probably walked those trails a million times like a machine. I can't help but wonder what it is really like, but I could see it in your eyes at the time... that that's the kind of riding you were used to, not the simple "sit on the horse's back and let him walk you" rides.

Nonetheless, I can tell you enjoyed your time with your horses. It must be great to have a close relationship with such a majestic animal, and even greater to "take him out for a spin."

I don't really know much about what happened with your horse and I don't know anything about Kajsa, but I'm whatever it is, I wish you the best.

Godspeed.

It wasn't really the ride that disappointed me... it was pretty much what I expected and a nice slow trail ride like that isn't really much different from what I frequently do myself. When I have a horse to ride on, anyway. But I felt really bad for the horse that went down - my guess is actually a colic possibly/probably caused by dehydration - and for the horses that were tied at the back of the building, with the sores from their halters. It's just such unnecessary, and easily preventable suffering, and that drives me crazy.

The horses were well-fed, seemed to be decently taken care of (with the possible exception of their feet - they weren't awful but they were far from good), and were reasonably friendly, but they didn't have unlimited access to water, and for the ones that were tied out in the sun for hours and hours that must've been awful. :(

I know there are much (much MUCH) worse cases out there (though in Sweden, these things I brought up would constitute as animal cruelty and could get you fined) but that doesn't make me feel less bad when I meet horses that are only suffering "a little"...

In case you want to find out what happened with Plaisir and who Kajsa is, I added you to my horse filter. You should be able to read all Plaisir and Kajsa posts now.

And thanks.

Oh, honey! I could cry for you right now. Three years... it doesn't seem that long at all. My heart aches for you. *massive hugs*

Some beings stay with us for much longer than the time we knew them.... The loss goes on but so do the happy memories. I hope you've been thinking of some of those!
